River Reverence
Little Island at Pier 55 is a man-made island off the west side of Manhattan. The imaginative ‘lily-pad’ like design, made up of 132 ‘pots’ suspending a 2.4 acre park high above on the concrete pilings in the Hudson river. This is probably one of the most imaginative architectural features in recent New York history.
The shapes created by the pilings rising up from the water give an almost cathedral-like feel, hence the name of this image.
