Rudder and Reflections

The brigantine Irving Johnson (along with Exy Johnson) is one of a pair of flagships of the Los Angeles Maritime Institute’s TopSail Youth Program. Based in the Port of Los Angeles, this twin-masted vessel was launched in 2002, but has all the lines and design appearance of a classic sailboat.

Unfortunately, she ran aground in 2005, but was salvaged and after an extensive refit and reconstruction, looking sleek and white as you see in this detail image of her rudder at the stern, she returned to service.
