Arc de Triomphe Stairs

The Arc de Triomphe was built to honor those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, and beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.

What you might not know, is that there are two sets of stairs to gain access to the top of this magnificent structure, with 284 steps to the main level, another 40 to get to the rooftop to the amazing view of Paris.

I am fascinated by the upward gazing image of the stairs, reminding me of the golden spiral. I have fond memories of our family holiday home on the coast in South Africa, which my architect father designed and built with the golden spiral in mind.
