Peking in New York

The Peking, is a steel hulled barque, launched in Germany in 1911, and she is still active today.

She has had quite a storied life and career at sea, having changed flags from Germany to Italy, back to Germany, then England, the United States, and eventually back to Germany. Along the way she was even immortalized in both film and song a number of times.

In 1974, under the name Arethusa II, she retired from service and was sold to to South Street Seaport in New York City as a museum ship, which is where she was when this photo was taken.

After 41 years in New York, she was sold back to the German Port Museum in Hamburg, and she was transported back to home for extensive refurbishment and repairs, and then re-floated, and she continues life there as a museum ship.
